Agility is one of the most refreshing concepts to wash over our industry in a long time, however the business analyst role seems conspicuously missing from most agile methods. There are product owners and on site customers, but no business analysts. Do agile methods make business analyst an obsolete role like a locomotive fireman? Certainly not! The iterative, incremental and opportunistic nature of the agile methods changes the business analyst role to a more exciting and fulfilling one. A rose by any other name still smells as sweet and the needs that gave rise to the discipline of business analysis do not vanish with the use of agile methods. But how do you integrate what is sometimes portrayed as a plodding and documentation driven role into an agile project?
The purpose of this working group is that by sharing our stories, exchanging ideas, and through open enthusiastic debate we will:
1) find answers for those struggling with reconciling business analysis practices recommended by the IIBA Book of Knowledge and agile software development practices
2) create guidelines and recommendations for integrating the discipline of Business Analysis and Agile Software development
Format:
This is a working group and not a lecture. Be prepared to come and share your ideas with your colleagues. This first workshop shall be organized as a "fish bowl" where a moderator will pose a question to an initial group of "experts" seated in the middle of the audience. At anytime a member of the audience can express an opinion on the question or the answer at which point they exchange places with one of the initial experts. This approach can facilitate a very lively and informative discussion.
Seed Questions:
1. Where is the BA in the agile environment? Are you also the product owner or scrum master, or is your role considered part of the working team?
2 How has your role as a BA changed in an Agile environment? What are your main responsibilities and how have those changed from a waterfall environment?
If you have additional questions you would like to add to the agenda please contact steve at wsaconsulting dot com
If you plan to attend please RSVP steve at wsaconsulting.com
Light refreshments and pizza provided.
